Liverpool are set to do the unthinkable and make a bid for Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia in the near future according to The Metro.
The 28-year-old winger, who has one year left on his current deal, showed flashes of his brilliance last term but had a largely forgettable season on the whole and could be cut loose by incoming manager Louis Van Gaal.
The Dutchman is keen to add fresh blood to the aging Manchester United squad and Valencia is unlikely to be part of his long term plans.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is said to be impressed by Valencia as he can play as a right winger as well as a right-back and could solve Liverpool’s problems down the right.
The Ecuador international was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from Wigan Athletic for £16 million but could be available cheaply in United decide to cash in on him.
Liverpool shouldn’t keep their hopes of signing Valencia too high as Manchester United have a strict policy of disallowing their players to join rival clubs and prevented Gabriel Heinze’s transfer to the Merseyside outfit back in 2007.
