Liverpool are readying a bold £15 million bid for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, according to reports.
After falling agonisingly short of winning a first league title since 1990, Red boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen his squad in an attempt to go one step further next term while a return to the Champions League will place an additional demand on his panel.
The German defensive midfielder is thought to be a high priority target for Rodgers after it emerged Madrid are likely to listen to offers for Khedira. Chelsea are also interested in Khedira, despite signing Cesc Fabregas last season but a move to Anfield might be of more attraction given the competition for places at Stamford Bridge, especially in midfield.
Khedira, who is currently in Brazil, has been ravaged by injuries in recent times and with only twelve months remaining on his current contract with the Spanish giants, the Champions League winners are willing to let him leave. Khedira played under Jose Mourinho at the Bernabéu but Liverpool are currently leading the race to land his signature according to the Metro.
The 27-year-old joined Real Madrid in 2010 after starring for Stuttgart and then the 2010 World Cup in place of the injured Michael Ballack. He’s played 144 times in four season for Madrid, scoring nine times. Germany’s next game in Brazil is tomorrow when they face Ghana.
