Manchester City's £25 million bid for contract rebel Raheem Sterling was rejected by Liverpool according to the BBC. Manchester City’s offer would have seen Liverpool receiving £25m and another £5m in potential add-ons.
It is reported that Man City are now weighing up an improved bid with an initial payment of £30m. But it will be difficult to tempt Liverpool into selling him as they have been insisting that Sterling is not for sale. In addition to that, Liverpool’s valuation of Sterling exceeds £50m.
Sterling had earlier rejected a contract extension which would have seen him earning £100,000 a week. His current contract with Liverpool runs up to 2017.
Man City on the lookout for homegrown players
Manchester City are looking to sign English players, as most of their homegrown players (Frank Lampard, James Milner, Scott Sinclair, Dedryck Boyata and Micah Richards) left the squad in the summer. Gael Clichy and Richard Wright, a goalkeeper who has not made a single senior appearance since 2012, are the only two players in Manchester City’s senior squad who could be classed as “homegrown”.
Manchester City’s English goalkeeper Joe Hart recently confirmed the same.
"With home-grown rules, it will be top of their list to bring in English players or to promote some of the young lads," he said.
