Liverpool’s left-back problems seem set to continue after Barcelona’s Adriano has revealed that he plans to stay at the Catalan club this summer, according to the Daily Express.
The Anfield club are looking to improve their options at left-back ahead of the new campaign, which sees them enter the Champions League. Previous first choice Jose Enrique’s recovery date from a long-term injury remains unknown.
While Jon Flanagan impressed in that position towards the tail end of last season, 20-year-old Jack Robinson is the only natural left-sided full-back at the club. Aly Cissokho returned to Valencia after failing to impress during his loan spell at Anfield.
Adriano said: ”At the moment I am staying, but I know that there is interest from other clubs.
“I do have a contract until 2017 and until the president tells me something different I will continue.
“I am only thinking about Barca and really would like to stay. I want to talk to the coach and clear things up.”
Liverpool were favourites to sign Alberto Moreno, but negotiations with Sevilla broke down last week, ending Liverpool’s hopes of signing the Spaniard.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers turned his attention to Adriano, in the hopes of adding Champions League experience to the side, but his announcement that he is not keen to leave the Camp Nou will have shattered Liverpool’s hopes of recruiting him.
