Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is set to be rewarded for his excellent form this season with a contract extension in the summer, according to The Mirror.
The 23 year-old has been an ever-present in Brendan Rodgers’ side this season as they battle it out for a Champions League spot and, as expected, played a crucial role in the 4-0 victory over Everton in last month’s Merseyside derby.
However, things have not always been rosy for Henderson, who attracted a fair amount of criticism following his £20 million move from Sunderland in 2011, with many Reds’ fans willing to write him off as a waste of money just a year ago.
Even Rodgers told the youngster he could leave the club if his valuation was met, but after being being given a chance in the second half of last season, Henderson has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and cemented a starting berth in the Northern Irishman’s side.
Roy Hodgson is reportedly monitoring Henderson’s situation with a view to including him in England’s World Cup squad later this year and Liverpool’s hierarchy are now keen to begin talks over a long term contract offer for Henderson, who has just two years left on his current deal.
