Liverpool look set to miss out on Seydou Keita for the second time this year, with the Mirror reporting that the Mali midfielder looking set to agree a move to Roma instead after leaving Valencia.
Brendan Rodgers had looked to sign the former Barcelona man in January as he looked to bolster his midfield options, but Keita opted to sign a six-month deal with Valencia and after that deal ended, the Liverpool manager revived his interest as he looks to add some experience to his young squad.
Rodgers has already been busy this summer, having brought Rickie Lambert to the club, while a number of other transfer targets are being examined, with Adam Lallana heavily linked and a deal for long-time Liverpool target Emre Can also appears close.
Liverpool are looking to beef up their squad this summer with the added challenge of the Champions League to prepare for and Rodgers had identified the experience of Keita, who won the trophy with Barcelona previously, as something needed to boost the likes of Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling, with the pair set to debut in the competition.
However, it seems it will not prove second time lucky for the Reds, as Keita looks set to finalise a move to Serie A runners-up Roma, as they also prepare to make a long-awaited return to Europe’s premier club competition.
