Liverpool star charged after hand gesture

On Monday, during Liverpool’s encounter with Fulham, Liverpool failed to capitalize on the recent poor form of Martin Jol’s side by not creating enough chances and were punished after 85 minutes when Clint Dempsey scored the winner. However, the misery didn’t end there, especially after Luis Suarez was spotted swearing to the television cameras.

The incident occurred after Suarez raised the middle finger on his left hand after 71 minutes and this was observed by all those watching at home as well as to those in the stadium. Worst of all, it happened in front of the Fulham fans. It was a case of adding insult to injury, given the fact that Suarez did not have a strong game and he was jeered by the crowd by being called a ‘cheat’.

It was announced today that Suarez has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association (FA). To make matters worse, Liverpool themselves have been charged with failing to keep their players under control after Jay Spearing was dismissed in what was a miserable night for the Anfield faithful.

This outburst is not common in Dalglish’s ranks. Normally running a tight ship, King Kenny is known for keeping a close grip on proceedings and whenever his team is out of line, they normally feel the full wrath of his anger.

After the game, Dalglish commented that he had not seen the photograph which showed Suarez swearing but he also commented about the shouts made by the crowd, “At the end of the day, we will look after Luis the best we can and I think it is about time he got a bit of protection from some people.”

Prior to the game against Fulham, Liverpool was in good form. The game before the one against Fulham, they were 2-0 victors at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea with a credible 1-1 draw against Man City. Before that game, they had beaten Chelsea yet again in the Premier League and had drawn against Manchester United back in October. In fact, they hadn’t lost many games and this defeat will hit them hard especially as their key-player Suarez could be out for a few games.

Liverpool face QPR on Saturday who are not exactly in the best of forms at the moment. Although a win for Liverpool would put them near the places for Europe and see them possibly leapfrog over Newcastle. But, then again, football isn’t that easy so it will be an interesting fixture at the weekend.
