Liverpool will not be announcing the signing of young Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can today, but are likely to confirm the deal on Thursday or Friday, according to James Pearce from the Liverpool ECHO.
Pearce, the Liverpool correspondent for the ECHO, ruined many fans’ day with the news that Liverpool’s fourth summer signing was not going to be unveiled today.
Many fans thought that Liverpool would unveil the German midfielder today after announcing the completion of Adam Lallana’s transfer from Southampton yesterday. The Englishman moved for a rumoured £16 million plus add-ons and reports yesterday suggested that Liverpool would complete the paperwork for Can’s transfer over the next 24 hours, but it seems that it will be longer.
Emre Can’s paperwork was meant to be completed today after the Reds confirmed several weeks ago that they had agreed a deal ‘in principle’ for the signing of the midfielder and the deal would be completed once the transfer window opened on July 1st.
Emre Can will join from Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga where he worked under former Liverpool defender and captain, Sami Hyypia, before the Finn’s sacking last season. Bayern Munich did have a first refusal on his signing next summer but Liverpool have avoided that trouble by signing him now.
