What's the story?

Borussia Dortmund forward Mario Gotze has hinted at a possible reunion with former boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, adding that the Premier League title race is "extremely exciting".

In case you didn't know...

Gotze was reportedly close to making the reunion happen back in 2016 when he was looking for a way out of Bayern Munich.

The Germany international, however, decided to return to former club Borussia Dortmund after having had talks with Klopp.

Gotze's contract with the Bundesliga giants will expire in the summer of 2020 but the forward has hinted at an interest in the Premier League with his most recent comments.

The heart of the matter

Gotze has revealed that he is in constant contact with Klopp, adding that he is always looking for new challenges.

Speaking to Bild, the Dortmund star said,

"He [Klopp] knew that I wanted to leave Bayern. Of course, we talked. He knows me very well and that I am always looking for new challenges."
"I often speak to Klopp. He brought me to the first team when I was 17 and he made it all possible. We never stopped talking."

Gotze was also asked to pick between his former bosses - Klopp and Pep Guardiola - to which he replied,

"They are difficult to compare because they pursue different philosophies. The fact is that both are extremely successful."
"I am grateful to have worked with two such outstanding coaches. I watch the games of both teams as often as possible, the title fight in the Premier League is extremely exciting."

Both managers are battling it out for the Premier League title as Liverpool and Manchester City are neck-and-neck in the intense chase.

What's next?

Borussia Dortmund are currently preparing for their much-awaited Der Klassiker clash with old rivals Bayern Munich on Saturday.
