Raul Meireles Joins Chelsea After Handing In Transfer Request To Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed that Portugese international Raul Meireles has handed in a transfer request to the Merseyside club. As transfer deadline day draws close, the Portugal international has handed in an extremely late transfer request to his club which has been confirmed on their official website:

“Liverpool Football Club have tonight confirmed that Raul Meireles has submitted a written transfer request.”

Meireles was trying for a move away from Liverpool after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of midfielders Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson at the club.

The request will smoothen his move to long term suitors Chelsea who have failed to sign Alvaro Pereira. Chelsea have had a 7-million-Pound plus Yossi Benayoun bid for Liverpool midfielder already rejected, but with the player handing in a transfer request, things will change quickly.
