Virgil van Dijk will be the next man to join Liverpool from Southampton, according to former Portsmouth and Newcastle United striker Micky Quinn.
In an interview with radio channel TalkSport, the former Premier League footballer disclosed that Liverpool are interested in signing the Dutch footballer.
“I believe they’re interested in Van Dijk when the transfer window opens up,” Quinn revealed. “They love a Southampton player, they’ll probably go back again.”
After 10 games into the league, Liverpool are jointly placed with league leaders only trailing on goal difference despite enthralling attacking performances.
Jurgen Klopp, as prudent as he is, must have given a thought to the missing jigsaw and has probably foreseen a solution. And if Liverpool has to mount a serious title challenge, they’ll the need the manager to sign someone like van Dijk, who has proved to be rock-solid in the heart of a defence ever since his arrival in the Premier League from Celtic.
He was signed as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld and has proved himself by rarely putting a foot wrong.
Quinn has backed the odds of Jurgen Klopp signing Virgil Van Dijk as early as the January transfer window. Liverpool have been brilliant going forward but have looked shaky and vulnerable at the back.

The Merseyside club has used the combination of new recruit Joel Matip and former Southampton defender Dejan Lovren at the heart of the defence.
Matip, who was signed on a free from Schalke, has been impressive at the back and pundits and fans are touting him to be an Anfield legend, while Lovren has still not won over Liverpool fans.
van Dijk’s composure on the ball, forward movement and overall defending ability fits in perfectly with Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.
Unfortunately for Southampton fans, although Micky Quinn could have based his claim on assumptions, the odds could easily be in favour of a likely transfer considering the number of players that have left the club for Liverpool.
Over the past few seasons Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Ricky Lambert have all left Southampton and made their move to the Merseyside club.
