1. Xherdan Shaqiri (Basel)
Xherdan Shaqiri – a young man destined for big things in football. A fantastic player to fill the spot on the right wing, a position that we lack a player with quality cross delivery and trickery to get past the full-backs. Dirk Kuyt, Henderson and co. are not out-an-out wingers. It’s something Liverpool need to fix if Andy Carroll is ever going to be successful with Liverpool FC.

He’s been getting rave reviews this season thanks to his performance against England for Switzerland, as well as his performances against Manchester United in the Champions League. He was the catalyst for Basel’s charge into the knockout stages of the prestigious Champions League. Shaqiri has garnered a total of 4 goals and 4 assists in the season thus far, an impressive total for a 20 year old.
Strengths
His speed to get past his defender, and his skills and trickery to leave him trailing is impressive. He possesses a good mix of power and a wonderful football brain that aids his passing ability. Versatility is also a strength for the youngster, given that he can play in the wing-back or second striker role as well. He could turn out to be a world class talent in the very near future.
Weaknesses
If there was a clear weakness, it’s Shaqiri’s aerial ability, but Shaqiri makes up for it with his other specialties, including being a decent free kick taker. He is often described to be a ‘powercube’ amongst his fans.
