Liverpool vs Arsenal: Match Preview

When Arsenal take on Liverpool this Sunday, the Scousers will know they have already beaten Arsenal already once this season. With Nuri Sahin, Liverpool have acquired a player who understands the style of Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, and will be raring to go after a frustrating season at La Liga champions, Real Madrid.

It was only a short time ago that Sahin looked destined to pull on the red of Arsenal rather than Liverpool’s own famous red strip. With the new man looking to make his debut this weekend, Arsene Wenger will be hoping that his failure in carving out a deal for the Turk will not come back to haunt him.

In their first two matches, Arsenal failed to score; perhaps a lack of understanding between the new forwards Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud can explain it but they will need to find their mark soon if they hope to replace the recently departed Robin van Persie.

Wenger himself assured the fans he is not worried saying, “We have to find a way to get around that by sharing more of the goals than we did before with Van Persie.”

Rodgers is also finding change is not an instantaneous process. Liverpool twice took the lead against Man City in their previous game but an error from Martin Skrtel gifted the champions a point despite Liverpool doing enough to take all three.

The performance was an encouraging one with Liverpool dominating the first half: impressive against a team that boasts quality in every position but unfortunately defensive mishaps cost them the full three points.

The match itself should be a fascinating one. Both have a common interest in kick-starting their campaign; building towards a brighter future and perhaps vying for a Champions League spot, come the end of the season. Both will also be looking to play a fluid, attacking style that should be pleasing on the eye.

Wenger will be wondering where the goals will come from; Rodgers will be hoping: not from them.
