Reports: Liverpool target Bilbao's Iker Muniain

Liverpool target Iker Munian

Liverpool want the ‘Spanish Messi’, Iker Muniain, according to reports in Spain.

The Reds look set to sell superstar striker Luis Suarez to Spanish giants Barcelona and are also targeting Alexis Sanchez in return but are keeping their options open with Juventus and Arsenal also thought to be interested in Sanchez.

Muniain is another name on the list of potential targets for Liverpool who are looking to vastly improve their first-team ahead of a their first season back in the Champions League next season. After finishing second in the Premier League last season, the Reds will also look to launch another title challenge next season with Brendan Rodgers hoping to go one step further and lift the title.

Muniain’s contract expires next summer so Liverpool could be forgiven for thinking they could sign him for much cheaper than Bilbao would like but the Spanish club are apparently looking for the equivalent of £35m-£40m which could be a stumbling block in negotiations.

While Bilbao have always been confident of keeping Muniain beyond next summer, they are now slightly concerned over his future after an impressive 2013/14 season in La Liga where he scored seven league goals – his best goals return in his career.
