You may have noticed at the end of every match report we give you the reader a chance to vote for who you think should be the man of the match, this was to serve two purposes firstly to give the reader a chance to express their views but secondly the site is running a points campaign to decide who wins player of the month and eventually player of the season ( Simon Mignolet won August player of the month )

Each winner of a MOTM award gets 10 points, runner up gets 8 and third place gets 5, and we can now reveal the winner of the Beyondthekop player of the month for September with a total of 28pts is Martin Skrtel.

Many people expected that Skrtel’s days at Anfield were up especially with summer signings Toure, Sakho and Ilori all coming into the club, but an injury to Kolo Toure gave Skrtel the chance to show what he could do against bitter rivals Manchester United, and he took that chance with both hands with a commanding performance at the back helping the reds to a clean sheet.

Swansea 2-2 Liverpool

Skrtel commading performance against Manchester Unted insured that he kept his place for the game against Swansea City , the game itself will be remembered for jonjo Shelvey having a part to play in all four goals but again it was the Slovakian defender that continued to impress keeping Bony and Michu at bay for most of the game

Liverpool suffered their first league defeat at home to Southampton, it was a lacklustre affair from the reds and manager Brendan Rodgers took the decision to start four centre backs, a decision he would soon regret and change soon after half time but by then it was too little too late.

Liverpool crashed out of the league cup at the hands of bitter rivals Manchester United, a game where the reds were unable to converts the chances that came their way, the one silver lining again came from Martin Skrtel who put in an outstanding performance and proved why Brendan Rodgers was right to keep him in the side.

September came to an end with a comfortable win over Sunderland, with Luis Suarez marking his premier league return with two goals, and Daniel Sturridge providing a man of the match performance with a goal and two assists.
