Ljungberg hits out at Arsenal’s fourth place celebrations

Freddie Ljungberg, former Arsenal midfielder has hit out at the club for celebrating their fourth position in the Premier League.

The Swedeish player was an integral part of the north London club, featuring in over 200 games for Arsene Wenger’s side, during their glory days in the early 2000s, with triumphs in both the Premier League and the FA Cup.

But the current roster has fallen short of the expectations set by their predecessors, so much so that even the fight for a spot in Europe is a lengthy strenuous battle. The fact that they proceeded to make light of coming in the fourth position did not sit well with Ljungberg.

“I’m not too happy that they celebrated (winning fourth position),” the 36-year-old told The Telegraph. “How I see the club is different, I’m from the old school and Pat Rice said to me if you don’t win a trophy every year it is a big failure.”

But Ljungberg has also admitted he has seen signs for improvement and that bringing in some new players could definitely move the club back towards the top of the Premier League.

“I think they have the foundations, but maybe they need to get some very good players to spice it up a little bit,” he said. “It’s hard for any team if you let your best players go every year. It’s not even possible to compete to win then and Arsene Wenger has done really well with the squad he has.”
