French international Loic Remy has joined Newcastle United on a one year loan deal from Queen’s Park Rangers with an eye on a permanent transfer at the end of the season. Remy becomes Newcastle’s first addition to the senior squad this summer after several months of frustration for The Toon in the transfer market. Newcastle, which has become a hotbed of French signing in recent years, will make Remy their 11th French addition to their squad.
Loic Remy has been a controversial name in the North-East, as he left the Tyneside club stranded in January, after having agreed to personal terms with them in January, only to appear three days later to sign for Queens Park Rangers. The Frenchman has been the symbol of the word “mercenary” for many a Toon faithful, and with a court hearing pending after being accused on charges of rape in the coming months, many fans still have a sceptical view of the Frenchman’s arrival on Tyneside.
The Frenchman’s performance in his short spell in the QPR jersey last year where he banged in six goals in 14 games, however, certainly bodes well of his ability to perform against the big boys of the Premier League. Remy’s footballing pedigree can’t be doubted. He provides a new dimension to the Newcastle attack. He adds real pace upfront, which Newcastle has been missing in recent times. Add to a bit of trickery; the versatility of coming in from the wings as well as the knowledge of where the back of the net is and Remy seems to tick all the right boxes for Newcastle in terms of their need.
Shortly after signing, Loic Remy spokeof his delight to join the Magpies: “I’m very happy to be a Newcastle player.”
“It will be a huge honour to play for such a big club. I am very motivated this year to get into the World Cup squad for my country. I know in order to do that, I need to have a big season and a successful campaign with Newcastle United. I am focused on helping the team achieve success this season and scoring as many goals as I can.”
“Loïc is a great player and I’m delighted that Joe has got him on board for us,” said Alan Pardew, who seemed delighted by the addition of the Frenchman. “He’ll give us strength and pace up front and I’m sure he’ll bring plenty of goals.”
