Saturday’s early kick-off sees Newcastle face off against Liverpool as they renew a classic Premier League rivalry.
There has not been a goalless draw between the two sides in the Premier League era, and that is unlikely to change with the league’s two top goalscorers going head-to-head at the weekend.
Newcastle’s Loic Remy is on five goals whilst Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge leads the charts with six goals.

Remy, a loan signing from QPR, has been a revelation since his transfer and has scored over half of Newcastle’s league goals. The talk is that the Geordies are looking to make his transfer permanent as soon as possible, and you can see why based on the way he has started this season.
What has been so impressive about him is that he has scored his goals with unique variety, scoring two from outside the box, poached two and finished one calmly from the edge of the box against Cardiff, in his last outing.
Remy’s conversion rate of 35.7% shows just how clinical he has been; scoring a goal every 66 minutes so far this season.

Meanwhile, at Liverpool, Sturridge has also set the league alight with his goals this season, only failing to score in one league game. A secret of his success has been as a result of his accurate shooting, hitting the target with 13 of his 20 shots.
His high total of 20 shots may suggest that he has been greedy but since Luis Suarez’s return to the side, he has forged an exceptional partnership with him.
Sturridge has proved he has that selfish streak you need to be a top class striker, but has also created five chances, including notching up two assists for Suarez against Sunderland, showing that he knows when to be unselfish.
However, Remy has outdone his rival in the creative department, making six chances in his five appearances so far. The fact he plays from a deeper position definitely has something to do with it as he gets more opportunities to thread balls through and cross the ball from the inside left position.

The fact both strikers regularly try to make things happen with their pace and direct style of means they must be a nightmare to defend against. The only option when choosing between the two of them is to sit on the fence because they are both in such a devastating run of form.
The weekend’s fixture gives us the opportunity to watch both strikers on the same pitch. I did not write this to jinx it, but the game is almost guaranteed goals with Remy and Sturridge fighting it out to end the weekend top of the scoring charts.
Let the battle commence!
