Van Gaal rates Rashford very highly

Manchester United’s manager has hailed Rashford’s debut against Arsenal after the youngster scored a brace in their 3-2 win on Sunday. And Van Gaal believes the performance is worthy of comparison to debuts by other greats of the game.

The Manager believes that Rashford has got great potential saying, “The experience of mine is youngsters always play well the first match, the second match is different. Marcus played well in both matches so he is a special talent”.

He went to mention of several players who made a great start to their careers with a spectacular debut for their clubs and believes the youngster fall under the same category

"I can imagine a lot of them.” he said “Patrick Kluivert makes the winning goal [for Ajax] in the Super Cup in the Netherlands. Xavi, fantastic against I think Valladolid [for Barcelona], and also Thomas Muller -- a fantastic debut. He was playing in the second team [for Bayern Munich].”

The 18-year-old was himself astonished with his performance but remains grounded despite playing two very god games. “It was my first game in the Premier League and it was amazing, and to score two was just a bonus. I just want to carry it on into the next game”.

It has been a brilliant week for the teenager, first scoring two goals against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League game on Thursday night and then scoring twice in two minutes against Arsenal on his Premier League debut.

Rashford is another player who has come from the Fletcher Moss academy, where the likes of Danny Wellbeck, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson also started their careers. The teenager has said that he benefited from the chance he got after Martial was ruled out after an injury in the warm up.

"I think that benefited me as I wasn't thinking about the game too much," he said. "It's just crazy and you can't explain it when you're out there. It's a rush of blood”.

United’s top four hopes alive

United’s win over their eternal rivals lifted them back to fifth on 44 points just three shy of Manchester City who do have a game in hand. But the Red Devils have shown they can cope even with most of their player out injured..

Despite having the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Chris Smalling out of action United still managed to beat an almost full strength Arsenal side. Their next assignment is in midweek as they welcome Watford on Wednesday night
