Louis Van Gaal: The Possibilites at Manchester United

Louis Van Gaal: the Possibilities

In Louis Van Gaal, Manchester United have successfully secured a proven winner, at the very highest level of the footballing world. Van Gaal is famous for his outrageously bold tactics, his fiery determination, his title-leaden resume, and his undoubtedly ridiculous tendency towards antics. The former Netherlands coach will be working with Ryan Giggs as his assistant, and has already started the process of getting his team ready for next season. In the Dutchman, United fans can look forward to seeing a manager who is the completely anti-thesis of the ill-begotten 'Chosen One' David Moyes. Where the Scotsman was cautious, you can expect the former Bayern manager to be bolder than advisable. Where the former Everton man would have tried to explain his not-so-effective tactics, the World Cup semifinalist will not offer an explanation, and demand the fans trust in him, which is often well-placed. Where Moyes would have settled for four, the Champions League winner is gunning for the title, and is taking no prisoners.

Revamped Squad

United can expect a completely revamped team this season, and I personally believe, that under van Gaal's iron rule, the utterly under-performing squad of last season, along with the new additions of Herrera and Shaw will be galvanized into a team resembling the Man United of old.

The attacking flair, defensive solidity, tactical flexibility, and the patent-pending United resilience will, hopefully, be returning to the theatre of dreams very soon. Van Gaal's record and personality will inspire the respect that was sadly lacking during Moyes' reign. His technical experience, man-management capabilities, pressure-resistant personality, and his awe-inspiring reputation promises to bump up last season's lacklustre football by several notches, and unlike Moyes' underwhelming track record, his past will give United the boost they so require in the transfer market.

Of course, given the fact that United no longer have Champions League football, for this season at least, the transfer market becomes a significantly more difficult matter. It's been years, and years(and years), since United failed to qualify for the Champions League, but the capture of a big name manager has given United a trump card in the transfer market. Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw are the first pieces of business conducted by United, and they promise to become Manchester superstars in the years to come. Already, it's shaping up to be a summer of transfers well conducted, and there is still a long time before the end of the transfer market.

Track Record as a Manager

It's not just the reputation he brings, but the footballing acumen he possesses is one of the greatest in the world. He went to Ajax, made them the best in the country. He went to Barcelona, made them the best in the country. He went to Bayern Munich, made them the best in the country. He became the manager of Netherlands and took them much farther into the World Cup than anyone would have expected, routing defending champions 5-1 on the way.

And not only the titles, and trophies. He puts into place a foundation, on which the team can build on for the years to come. He does not underestimate the importance of youth, and the promising youngsters of United can hope to be given a chance, and be blooded into the first team under their new coach. The former Ajax man comes with an enviable record of exemplary coaching, and his skills will take Manchester United a long way.

The Cons

Louis van Gaal, however, does not come without his own sets of negatives. His strong personality may put off a few people, and his overbearing courage when it comes to footballing decisions will definitely annoy some armchair experts. If he doesn't reward the fans with immediate success, his tough comments may very well turn them against him very, very fast.

On the whole however, in van Gaal, United have a manager with great records of trophy-winning, who will, if nothing else, will provide the United fans with entertainment, whether on or off the field. His bullish arrogance and vivid personality will provide an extremely welcome change from the cautious, unsure Moyes of last year.

United have a lot to look forward to, and a lot of that is because of their new manager, Louis van Gaal.
