Shakhtar Donetsk forward Luiz Adriano scored 5 against BATE Borisov in a 7-0 win on a UEFA Champions League night laden with goals and records. In the process, the Brazilian equalled the record for most goals in a match set by Lionel Messi. Messi had achieved the feat at the Nou Camp against a hapless Bayer Leverkusen side in March 2012.
This was the Ukrainian side’s first win the competition this year and puts them second on the table behind leaders Porto with a two-point gap separating the two. The Barcelona superstar himself got one step closer to breaking Raul’s all-time UEFA Champions League goalscoring record (71) and is tied at 69 goals with rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bayern Munich became the first away side to score 5 goals in on half as they went on a rampage of their own against AS Roma but the Ukrainians did one better by scoring the sixth in the 44th minute.
