Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has been reported to be back in the training ground for the first time since his horror leg break in a Champions League match between PSV Eindhoven, according to The Mirror. With the help from the United’s medical department, Shaw has been recovering at home ever since the injury last month.
The England international fractured his tibia and fibula when he was at the receiving end of Hector Moreno’s dangerous tackle. The incident took place in United’s Champions League opener against PSV last month, where the match ended 2-1 in favour of the Dutch side.
It’s been almost a month now on Shaw’s long road to recovery and today he took to Twitter to confirm he has returned to United’s training complex for the first time on Tuesday.
United manager Louis van Gaal had recently suggested that he expects Shaw to miss at least six months and despite being only 20 years old, the Dutchman has hailed the young Englishman’s strong character and positivity.
“You have to cope with all the things that happen in a rehab,” he said. “It’s six months but mostly there’s always more and then he has to be fit so it shall be very difficult.
“He knows that he has a long way to go but the most important thing is he is mentally very strong.
“But that’s now and it’s fantastic to see. But also in his rehabilitation period he has to show that consistently and it’s not easy. He is also 20 years old. It’s not easy but when I saw him yesterday he was very strong and that is fantastic to see.”
Glad to have met Shaw after his operation: Moreno
Injuries are part of the game and truth be told, nobody really intends to injure the player from the opposite team. PSV defender Moreno had recently claimed that Shaw doesn't blame him for the injury despite many onlookers seeing the tackle as reckless.
“What happened to Shaw was very unfortunate,” Moreno said. “I was just in shock. I’m glad I was able to go speak to him. I went with Phillip Cocu to the hospital.
“That was very difficult at the beginning, but he was very kind to me and didn’t blame me. He had seen the images and said it was part of football. That made me smile.”
