Man United defender with 86% pass accuracy admits: We’ve “lost” some confidence

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United defender, Jonny Evans, has identified a lack of confidence as a significant part of the reason for the Red Devils’ recent dismal run of form. Just when it appeared that David Moyes’ side had properly embarked upon their title challenge, winning four and drawing one of their five games from October 5th to November 10th, it all went terribly wrong as United have subsequently gone four games without a win and suffered successive home defeats for the first time in over ten years.

Evans admitted, “Obviously the lads have lost a bit of confidence in their play.

“Players maybe are not playing how they naturally would. That happens when your confidence drops.”

The Irish centre-half suggested this lack of confidence has diminished the sheer level of effort United put into pressurizing opponents right up until the final whistle when trailing under Alex Fergurson.

“Usually whenever we’re chasing a goal at Old Trafford, especially at the Stretford End, we put teams under an enormous amount of pressure,

“But with the lack of confidence and creativity we didn’t produce that. It is hard to put your finger on it.

“If you look back at the game, we lacked a bit of sharpness in our passing. We were sloppy in possession which allowed Newcastle to get control of the game.

“When we were going forward, the lack of sharpness in our passing stopped us from creating much up front.”

Evans also conceded that United’s title hopes have been hugely dented by recent performances, yet claims they haven’t given up yet.

“It’s difficult (to win the league) in any season,” he said.

“The fact we’ve lost five games already makes it harder.

“But we won’t give up. We are professionals. We want to keep going until the end.”
