Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has revealed that he wants to discuss his future at the Bundesliga champions with the club’s hierarchy this summer.
The German international is set to play a major role in Joachim Low’s side in Brazil but his domestic future is far from certain despite being under contract with the Bavarians until 2017.
Reports emerged earlier in the season that the 24-year-old had grown frustrated at his lack of game time under Spanish manager Pep Guardiola and the forward has now revealed he wants clarification that he is part his boyhood club’s long term plans.
“I have reached the point where I want to know if I am an essential component of the Bayern Munich first XI for the new season and if the club has plans for me over the coming years.
“That’s why I will be out to have a meeting,” he told reporters.
“I am not the type of guy that says, ‘Alright, I have played a good part and will keep my mouth shut and everyone else is able to do with me whatever he wants’.
“As a Munich-boy your test at Bayern Munich is always a bit tougher, but we (those players graduated from the youth academy) are the grassroots of this club!” Muller insisted.
Given that his form has not dropped and he has continued to impress in the Champions League for his club side, Muller is well within his rights to be given assurances of his stature in the team.
Robert Lewandowski is set to arrive from Borussia Dortmund, which could push Muller further down the pecking order and if he chooses to seek a move away from the Allianz Arena he would not be short of potential suitors.
Muller has been repeatedly linked with a move to Manchester United this summer with new manager Louis van Gaal reportedly keen to be reunited with Muller after the Dutchman gave the striker his debut for Bayern as a youngster in 2008.
