The clash at the Turf Moor on the 2nd of September could be a season-defining match for both the teams. While Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their two consecutive defeats, Burnley, on the other hand, hasn't yet hit the form they have showed last season.
Manchester United lost 0-3 at home to Tottenham Hotspur while Burnley was knocked out of the Europa League after a second-leg draw at home to Olympiakos.
The defeat against Tottenham was the first time in 26 years when the Red Devils lost two of their opening three matches in the Premier League. After the game, Jose Mourinho was in the eye of the storm from the fans and the media. Before the upcoming international break, it is imperative that United get back on track and keep pace with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester City who look in sublime form. A defeat will mean United will further slip down the table as well as pressure will mount on Jose Mourinho.
Manchester United Injuries
Last week saw the return of Nemanja Matic, Antonio Valencia and Alexis Sanchez from injuries though Matic looked way off the pace on Monday. On the other hand, the Portuguese right-back Diego Dalot who hasn't played a single game this season is back in training after the knee surgery and could feature soon while both the Argentine Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo are still out after summer operations.
Phil Jones picked up a hamstring injury last Monday in the defeat against Spurs and is expected to be unavailable for the game while Alexis Sanchez will be hoping to start after coming off from the bench in the second half against Tottenham.
Manchester United Suspensions
Neither team has any suspensions with none of the players being sent off in their opening games.
Manchester United Starting Line-Up
The game on Monday saw Mourinho making a tactical change playing Herrera as a center back in the 3-0 loss to Spurs. However, against Burnley, he is unlikely to make the same tactical tinkering. The Spaniard will be a potential covering for Nemanja Matic in the midfield if the Serb is unable to start against Burnley.
Alexis Sanchez is expected to be back in the starting line up while in defense Jose Mourinho has a major headache to choose his best pair of centre-backs. Jose wanted a centre half in the summer transfer market with rumours linking the Leicester City defender Harry Maguire and Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld. However United failed to acquire the services of either of them. Lindelof and Bailly failed miserably against Brighton while Jones and Smalling were weak in the second half against Tottenham Hotspur. With Jones unlikely to feature in the match, it will be interesting to see who is left out among Smalling, Bailly, and Lindelof.
