Last week, we conducted a poll for Manager of the Month for March 2013, where we selected the best managers in terms of performances in the month of February from across all the major leagues in Europe.
The nominees for the Manager of the Month awards were:
1) Philippe Montanier, Real Sociedad (ESP)
2) Jorge Jesus, Benfica (Por)
3) David Moyes, Everton (Eng)
4) Antonio Conte, Juventus (Ita)
5) Elie Baup, Olympique de Marseilles (Fra)
6) Carlo Ancelotti, Paris Saint-Germain (Fra)
7) Jupp Heynckes, Bayern Munich (Ger)
8) Massimiliano Allegri, AC Milan (Ita)
9) Frank de Boer, Ajax Amsterdam (Ned)
From the readers that took part in the poll, Jupp Heynckes, manager of Bayern Munich, emerged the comprehensive winner with bulk of the votes (37%), beating his nearest rivals Jorge Jesus (18%) of Benfica and David Moyes (15%) of Everton by a fair margin, thus becoming the Manager of the Month for March.
While the Bavarian side did lose to Arsenal (2-0) in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout match, it was of little consequence as they did manage to seal qualification to the quarter-finals to keep themselves in sight of a unique treble.
Having already won the Bundesliga, die Roten owe a lot to their successes in March. Kicking off with a 1-0 win against Hoffenheim, the Germans put together wins against Dusseldorf (3-2) and Leverkusen (2-1) after which they walloped a woebegone Hamburg side 9-2.
