Manchester City close to agreeing £34m deal for Fernandinho

Manchester City have agreed £34 million deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho, according to reports.

The Brazilian, known for his blistering pace and ability to shoot from long distance, is a defensive midfielder with a box to box style of play and contributes in large parts to both defense and attack.

With Manuel Pellegrini set to be appointed manager in the next few days, City have already started strengthening their squad to regain the Premier League title. They have also agreed a deal to sign Jesus Navas from Sevilla for a reported fee of £17 million.

Fernandinho has admitted that joining the Sky Blues will help him get selected for the Brazil’s World Cup squad.

“They know that the Premier League is a great championship and that Manchester City is a great club, therefore they all wish me to play there, and to participate in the division.”

“I believe my chances of making the World Cup squad will improve if I join City.”

“My exposure would be better, because Brazil is biased towards the Ukrainian league. What we do here is not recognised in my country.”

City fans will hope that the player is as good as the transfer fee suggests, as £34 m for a 28-year-old seems steep by even City’s standards.
