Manchester City news: Ilkay Gundogan in line to start; Sergio Aguero agrees one year contract extension

Ilkay Gundogan is expected to make his league debut today against Bournemouth

Manchester City face Bournemouth today at the Etihad Stadium with the Citizens looking to extend their lead at the top of the table. City are on a roll under Pep Guardiola and are coming on the back of a 4-0 drubbing of Borussia Monchengladbach in midweek. Bournemouth too will arrive in Manchester with the confidence after beating West Brom 1-0 in their last league game.

Eddie Howe has a full fit squad to select his starting lineup from as Jack Wilshere is expected to start from the bench with the manager reluctant to rush the Arsenal loanee into the starting lineup. City, on the other hand, will be delighted as Ilkay Gundogan is all set for his league debut after impressing in the Champions League game in midweek. David Silva is expected to miss out with an injury with Sergio Aguero serving the second match of his three-match suspension.

On his team selection against Bournemouth, Pep Guardiola spoke to reporters and said, "I’m thinking about it, I don’t know. He played good but we cannot forget he comes from a long-term injury. We’ll see today, we’ll talk to the doctors. We had for the weather one more day regeneration, now we have one less but it is what it is. We have to use the players every few days. Vincent Kompany is close but not yet. We need him. There’s a lot of games to come. We need everybody."

City have won all their matches under Pep Guardiola and have also scored the most goals in the league this campaign with 11 goals. City are unbeaten in the last eight encounters between the two sides. Cherries, on the other hand, have won just one of their last six away games with Howe's side 14th in the table after four games. Bournemouth do have a chance as City are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league under Guardiola.

Sergio Aguero to sign new contract with Manchester City

In more good news for City, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Sergio Aguero is close to signing a new contract with the club but there isn't anything official yet. "I don't know if I'm the right person to talk about that. I think he's going to extend the contract but it's not official," said the manager.
