Sergio Aguero has declared that he is happy at Manchester City and confirmed that he has intentions of joining Real Madrid. The striker has been in fine form this season and recently scored his 150th goal for the club in the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.
The Argentine international currently on international duty with the national squad was speaking to ESPN Radio ahead of their impending World Cup qualifier stated, “A while back there was a Real Madrid rumour but the truth is that I am very happy at City, especially with the arrival of Pep”
The 28-year-old reiterated his happiness with his current situation as he quelled all rumours of a possible move to the Spanish capital. Stating, “I have no idea what the rumours are. But I am happy at City and I hope to finish out my contract there and then return to Independiente.”
Rumours of a rift
In recent weeks, the Argentine has been the centre of attention after he was dropped controversially by Pep Guardiola in a key Champions League fixture against Real Madrid. At the time, there were suggestions of a rift.
However, Pep later explained that “the move to drop Aguero” was more of a tactical move rather than his displeasure with the Argentine. In fact, Aguero was back in the squad and played a key role in last week’s 3-1 victory over Barcelona at the Etihad.
When questioned about his relationship with Pep, Aguero replied in the positive stating, “I have never had any issues with Pep. We spoke a lot. But he has never had a problem with me nor I with him. He always gives me advice. I am happy because he wants to help me be a better football player and that makes me feel good.”
This budding relationship sure augurs well for the long-term future of the club. Pep has been notorious for shifting out players who fail to adhere to his plans irrespective of their status at the club.
City has already seen the likes of Joe Hart, Samir Nasri and Eliaquim Mangala leave the club in the summer and Yaya Toure also seems to be on his way out. When poked about such bold moves by Guardiola, Aguero replied diplomatically stating, “The decision was that of the coach and right now he has other midfielders. We have to comply with what the coach asks us to do. For us, Yaya has been fundamental in the past few years. But with the new system under Pep, we are trying to improve and he knows which players he needs.”
