Manchester City kicked-off the new season with a grand party on Friday.
City officially launched their 2013-14 campaign in front of thousands of fans. The newly appointed club manager, Manuel Pelegrini, took the stage to take part in a Q&A session, answering fans’ questions live on stage.
The event was hosted by respected sports pundit and the face of BT Sport’s Barclay’s Premier League coverage, Jake Humphrey.
New signings like Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic, Jesus Navas and Fernandinho appeared on stage with the other team mates. Alvaro Negredo spoke about his ambitions at the club, after scoring his debut goal in the Audi Cup final.
He said: “Let’s hope it’s the first of many and let’s hope that together we can achieve all of our objectives for this season.”
Club captain Vincent Kompany spoke to the crowd about his goals and hopes for the upcoming Premier League season. He said: “We are dying to come back and start this season – we’ve got so much to prove and we’re all looking forward to it. We’ve got a great team; I really think that at the end of this year we are going to achieve what we are setting out to with our targets.”
The crowd present enjoyed a brilliant set from Miles Kane, who played a hit-laden set of songs from his critically-acclaimed albums “Colour of the Trap” and “Don’t Forget Who You Are?”, and lifelong Blue, Jason Manford, made both the players and fans laugh alike during a laugh-a-minute stand-up set, full of quips about life as a City fan.
