After Manchested United, their local rivals and defending champions have finally revealed the much talked about home kit which they are going to don in persuit of defending their title. In May last year, Nike signed a mammoth deal of £72 million, making them the ones to design the Manchester City kit. In another announcement Nike had earlier mentioned that they will not back City rivals Manchester United after the 2014-15 campaign and this season with them will be their last.
First Look : The first look of the Lively blue City kit was unvieled on their twitter account. Just recently, before City, Manchester United and Arsenal also revealed their kits. United are seeing a Nike kit owing to their last year with them while Arsenal have a new sponser in Puma.
Changes : About the changes, City and Nike, seemed to have kept them to a minimum as there are no stand out changes from last time around. Only the collar has been slightly modified and the new one is now v-neck and black in colour instead of the light-blue and white crew trim which used to be last year. This new theme of light-blue and black runs throughout the kit with patches of black prominent in the arms of the shirt and the top of socks. Another big change is the shorts which now match the shirt colour which was not the case last year when the shorts were white. Also, ‘We are Cityzens’ is inscribed just below the collar on the inside of the shirt.
Technology : According to the club's website. With laser-cut ventilation holes and mesh panels in several areas of the shirt, players will receive improved air circulation allowing players to "regulate their temperatures" during games. Also keeping in mind Nike’s environment conservation philisophy, it’s been said that each shirt is made with 18 plastic water bottles, which, fankly is beyond my comprehension but willl strengthen Nike’s image in the environmentalist consumer market anyway. Like all other Nike kits, this one has also utilized Dri-fit technology.
