VfL Wolfsburg’s Belgian international Kevin de Bruyne will meet club officials next week in order to seek clarity over his future, Sky Sports reports. The former Chelsea reject is one of the hottest properties in the transfer market after a stellar 2014/15 season at the Wolfsburg arena.
“I don’t have any stress about these things. It will come this way and I know there are a lot of rumours,” De Bruyne told Sky Sports News HQ.
De Bruyne’s agent, Patrick de Koster had ignited rumours of a move to the Etihad way back in April, after confirming he had met with Manchester City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain.
“I have met the people from Manchester City, but there are no formal discussions. In the next few weeks I will be going around the world to talk about the situation with Kevin, “ De Koster said.
PSG also keen to sign De Bruyne
The 24-year-old was named as the Best Player in the Bundesliga and raked in 29 assists apart from scoring 18 goals. French champions Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keen to sign the attacking midfielder, but according to Sky Sports, the player had confirmed informal contact with Manchester City three weeks ago.
De Bruyne was however quick to add that any discussions would have to be done through proper channels.
“We say to everybody – if they want to do something, they have to go to Wolfsburg, not me,” he said.
“I always thought that I was going to talk to my club first when the season got over. And for me the season is not over. That starts probably next week or the week after but I will also be on vacation,” De Bruyne had said.
Wolfsburg issue hands-off warning to potential suitors
The German club voiced their stance on the De Bruyne transfer situation by insisting the player was not for sale. Wolfsburg’s director of sport Klaus Allofs told German sports network Sport1 in an exclusive interview: “Kevin has a contract until 2019, so the signal has already been sent out. He will stay with us. We’ve said we will look at his contract.”
“The aim is to take into account financially Kevin’s extraordinary development and I think we will reach an agreement here very quickly,” Allofs told Sport1.
Wolfsburg began their preparations for the 2015/16 season by holding its first training session on Thursday. De Bruyne and a number of other first-team regulars were missing however with youth squad members mostly making up the 20 players.
