Juventus and Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci has denied claims that there was any direct communication between him and Manchester City in the summer. The negotiations between Ferran Soriano and Bonucci's representatives reportedly took place in the summer during speculation about an imminent transfer over the 29-year-old defender.
Bonucci, an experienced and reliant leader on the field for club and country, has had a lot of interest from foreign clubs eager to snatch the defender away from Juventus. However, recent reports in the Italian press claims Bonucci has begun talks to renegotiate his current contract with the club to extend his stay with the Turin giants.
"Manchester City said that I had called them to move there? I did not call anybody; they have not called me personally."
Juventus currently sit top of the Serie A standings although Bonucci and his team have provided the Turin faithful with poor displays, the latest game in which the club managed to sneak a narrow 2-1 victory over Chievo.
"I would honestly win all the games 1-0, but at the end of the day, a more beautiful way of playing will come," said Bonucci to an Italian outlet La Domenica Sportiva.
"Where do we need reinforcements? These things are not my responsibility, but maybe in the future, I hope to be a coach for many years.
“Truthfully, the area where we are a little short is in midfield. Many players are not at their best, Kwadwo Asamoah is still out, even Stefano Sturaro and Mario Lemina are not 100 percent, plus Claudio Marchisio returned from a serious injury.
"We must improve, but at the moment we have to manage with what we have,” he added.
Bonucci is adamant, confident and concentrated on his current task at hand to help secure another Serie A crown with Juventus and hopes to push for one better in the Champions League and lift the coveted trophy for Juventus.
For the time being Bonucci’s career looks to continue at the Turin giants with the player striving to improve and better his performances to take the club through another season of glory. Manchester City’s pursuit of the veteran Italian ball playing centre-half Bonucci has hit a stand still.
With the Italian lining up to extend his contract with the Italian giants at the end of the season, as contract talks with the club having already begun, as they look to fend off interests from foreign clubs to retain the services of their star man in central defence.
