Arsenal Player Ratings
Bernd Leno - 7/10
Leno didn't have much to do but made a smart stop from Greenwood in the first half. Manchester United didn't create too many chances and the Arsenal goalkeeper was relatively untroubled throughout the rest of the game.
Rob Holding - 8/10
Holding was solid at the back for Arsenal and didn't put a foot wrong. Starting on the right side of a three-man backline, the Englishman produced one of his best performances for the Gunners and kept the Manchester United attackers at bay. Played well despite getting an early booking for a cynical foul on Pogba.
Gabriel Magalhaes - 9/10
Gabriel marshaled the Arsenal backline expertly and produced an outstanding showing away from home. The Brazilian defender has been one of the signings of the season and showed exactly why Arteta fought hard to snap him up. Made several crucial interventions throughout the game and popped up with a goal-saving sliding tackle to deny Matic late in the game. His best performance in an Arsenal shirt so far.
Kieran Tierney - 8/10
Tierney was assured on the left side of the back-three and managed to drive forward with the ball at his feet on several occasions. The Scott complemented Gabriel and Holding perfectly on a night, as Arsenal held their own defensively in a daunting away game at Old Trafford.
Hector Bellerin - 8.5/10
Another fantastic performance from Hector Bellerin, who seems to be returning to his best after recovering from a series of wretched injuries. The Spaniard showed his pace and played the role of a wing-back perfectly, as he contributed to the best of both worlds for Arsenal. Won the penalty that led to the solitary goal of the game.
Mohamed Elneny - 8.5/10
Elneny was a surprise name on the team sheet, but the Egyptian midfielder showed all his experience and produced a stunning performance for Arsenal. Broke up play efficiently and gave Arteta's side some extra defensive stability, as he sat back and allowed Thomas Partey to show his class on the ball. After being cast aside by Unai Emery, Elneny's fighting spirit and attitude has been rewarded by Arteta. He's a survivor, isn't he?
Thomas Partey - 9/10
Under the lights at Old Trafford in the Manchester rain, Thomas Partey announced himself to the Arsenal faithful with an outstanding performance. The Ghanaian midfielder was by far the best player on the pitch and showed his class on the ball, as he contributed to both phases of play to devastating effect.
His long passes were a thing of beauty, but what stood out most was his ability to break up play and mop things up defensively for his side. Arteta's newest midfield general showed exactly why the Gunners broke the bank for him on deadline day.
Bukayo Saka - 7/10
Stationed as a left wing-back, Saka played his heart out for Arsenal and enjoyed a few good moments in the final third. Aaron Wan-Bissaka didn't give him too much joy, but the young Englishman's energy and guile on the ball was a handful for the Manchester United defenders to deal with.
Willian - 6.5/10
Willian worked his socks off for Arsenal and came close to scoring in the first half, as his left-footed shot after a well-worked Gunners move cannoned off the top of the crossbar.
However, he wasn't at his best and gave the ball away too many times in the first half. Luckily for Arsenal, though, Partey turned on the style and mopped up expertly in the heart of the midfield.
Alexandre Lacazette - 6/10
Lacazette pressed well in the first half, but the Frenchman has looked off-color for a while now and once again failed to make an impression. Arteta continues to pick him to lead the line due to his work-rate and off the ball movement, but the former Lyon striker really needs to find his shooting boots in the coming weeks.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 7/10
Not Aubameyang's best game, as the Arsenal captain didn't really trouble the Manchester United backline. He did, however, score the solitary goal of the game from the penalty spot and end the night as the matchwinner. Football is a funny old game at times.
Arsenal substitutes
Eddie Nketiah - 6/10
Nketiah replaced Lacazette after 75 minutes on the clock, as Arteta opted to introduce fresh legs to see off the game. The young forward was lively after coming on and came close to being through on goal before Lindelof got to the ball late in the game.
Shkodran Mustafi - N/A
Came on with five minutes left on the clock and didn't contribute enough to warrant a rating.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles - N/A
Much like Mustafi, Maitland-Niles came on in the closing stages of the game and didn't have too many touches of the ball.
