Nemanja Matic produced another understated yet impactful performance, making a number of recoveries in midfield and also dropping back into defence seamlessly every time Maguire or Lindelof ventured forward.

An encouraging first-half display from Paul Pogba was overshadowed by the fact that he conceded the penalty which resulted in West Ham’s opener. The midfielder was unable to redeem himself in the second half, failing to create any chances of note.

Mason Greenwood was Manchester United's most promising attacking threat.

On his 50th Manchester United appearance, young striker Mason Greenwood moved level with George Best, Brain Kidd and Wayne Rooney for goals scored by a teenager for the club during a single season.

Greenwood always popped up in promising positions, and his efforts were rewarded with his 17th strike of the season.

Bruno Fernandes: 6/10

Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes was unable to build on a promising start to the game and could not find the killer pass despite showing flashes of his brilliance at times.

Marcus Rashford: 6/10

Marcus Rashford looked extremely lively on the left wing. He came close to scoring on a number of occasions and enjoyed an engaging tussle with West Ham right-back Ben Johnson but failed to get on the scoresheet.

Anthony Martial put in yet another strong shift for Manchester United in the centre-forward role.
