The highly anticipated Manchester Derby lived up to expectations as Manchester United and Manchester City played out a cracker of a game at Old Trafford to kickstart Gameweek 4 in the Premier League. In the end, it was Manchester City who came out on top with a 2-1 win.
The match has been billed as the biggest match of the season since the two sides had invested the most in the summer transfer window in what was a massive rebuilding effort in Manchester. Jose Mourinho had spent £150m while Pep Guardiola had invested £174m before the transfer window slammed shut.
It was Guardiola’s side that took the lead after dominating for the majority of the first half. Two goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho put them ahead in enemy territory before Zlatan Ibrahimovic capitalized on a Claudio Bravo clanger to reduce the deficit. The second half saw a mini-United resurgence but City held on for all three points.
The result sees the Sky Blues move to the top of the table while Mourinho suffered his first loss with the Red Devils. Here are the key numbers from the game.
