Although all might have been forgotten had United managed to go through to the next round, the fact is that, United haven’t been the luckiest when it comes to the FA Cup draw. Whilst a home game against Swansea is far from an impossible fixture, it was the ninth straight time that United had faced a Premier League club in the FA Cup. And, going further back, 25 of the last 29 draws has seen United come up against a top-flight opposition. The magic of the FA Cup hasn’t quite lived up to the billing for United, who must be hoping for a better draw at least next year. And whilst it is no excuse for the performance that they displayed, that might certainly explain why their last final appearance was way back in 2007 against Chelsea.
