Manchester United have enjoyed a terrific start under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer. The Norwegian has brought back the old charm of the club, and Manchester United have displayed the attacking flair they were synonymous with during the Sir Alex Era.

Solksjaer has infused a fresh breath of air in the talented United squad and has proved to the world that Manchester United are still a force to reckon. A title challenge might be too late to consider, but the fans worldwide are convinced that the future prospects are bright with this pool of players.

Talking about the squad, despite possessing a world-class unit of players, there still seems the need of adding new recruits for certain positions. In order to mount a series challenge for the English Premier League, Manchester United need all the boxes ticked, and for that they need new personnel.

Here are the 4 positions which need some strengthening in order to drive Manchester United back to the top.

#1 Centre-back

It’s no secret that Manchester United were desperately looking for a top centre back in the previous two transfer windows. The reason is quite obvious considering the history of this club and the name associated with it.

Men like Jaap Stam, Nemanja Vidic and more have helped Manchester United win a plethora of titles. It's been a privilege for the club to be home to so many world-class defenders.

A rock-solid defender with an impressive resume will help Manchester United flourish in Europe and most importantly, England.

#2 Striker

Manchester United have one of the most exciting attacking units in Europe. The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and more have the ability to terrorize any defence around the globe.

Despite the number of dynamic options in the attacking department, there does seem the need for a genuine striker.

Romelu Lukaku had a decent first season but his second hasn’t been extremely pleasing as the Belgian has been short of playing time. Lack of playing time and his limitations in United’s current style of play do suggest the need for a new striker.

Marcus Rashford has been terrific under Solksjaer, but there is a common saying that two is better than one. Manchester United will do wonders with a swift striker who has the ability to gel well with this skilful side.

Solksjaer was a lethal forward in his day; the Norwegian was known to be one of the deadliest goalscorers of his time. If he gets a decent striker who has the ability to replicate his legacy, then the Red Devils might be in for pretty exciting future.

#3 Right-back

If you ask any Manchester United fan which position they would like to strengthen the most, a majority of them would say right-back. It’s been a long time since United fans heartily accepted a right-back.

The last man to form a real connection with the United fan-base was the Brazilian Rafael, who blossomed under Sir Alex Ferguson. Since then many men have taken up the position but none have been able to fit in the 'world-class' bracket.

Men like Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have done their best to justify the role, but that can't hide the fact that those players are not natural right backs.

Manchester United do have Diogo Dalot in their ranks, but a proven right-back would definitely be welcomed.

#4 Defensive midfielder

The position of a defensive midfielder is often underrated in a team. But there’s no denying the importance of the person carrying the role of such great responsibility.

A solid defensive midfielder is like a warrior in the centre of the park, like a shield in front of the defenders. Their indispensable presence brings stability to the team.

Nemanja Matic has been good for the Red Devils but his inconsistency has been starkly evident in recent times.

Chelsea has Jorginho, Manchester City have Fernandinho and Liverpool have Fabinho. A formidable defensive midfielder will surely aid United's hopes of securing the Premier League title.
