Manchester United are invading Latin America

Shanghai Shenhua v Manchester United

SHANGHAI, CHINA – JULY 25: Javier Hernandez of Manchester United (L) challenges with Qiu Tianyi of Shanghai Shenhua during the Friendly Match between Shanghai Shenhua and Manchester United at Shanghai Stadium on July 25, 2012 in Shanghai, China.

Someone once said Manchester United scouts scout for a lot of teams in the Premier League. Well, the truth in this is a matter of personal conviction. What do you think about it? After signing Javier Hernandez, in the recent past there have been a lot of players who have been linked with Manchester United, all of them from South America. What does this mean for football? Is South America the next big thing?

While a lot of clubs are looking to sign ready-made players who are the finished product, United seem to have invested a lot of future plans in the South American continent. Following Chicharito’s success during his first stint in England, there are a number of transfer targets that have been made down south. Lucas Moura is but the one who got away, but Angelo Henriquez has just been granted a work permit.

Rumor has it that United are keenly following proceedings and are looking to bring in “Zorro” Hector Herrera from Pachuca. And for £10 million, signing a talented 22 year old midfielder looks like the kind of business that you look back on years later and smile. Remember Bebe? A lot of people have thought of him as a flop, and with good reasons of course, but when you see that lad play, you can only imagine the things that he can do given the time and resources that United have at their disposal. If indeed he was a flop as we would love to think, why are United still holding on to him?

Olympics Day 15 - Men

LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 11: Hector Herrera of Mexico (L) battles for the ball with Romulo of Brazil

Though Herrera is currently nursing an ankle injury, you can almost bet United will beat Liverpool to his signature, especially if they are really keen on signing him. But what does this mean for them? A lot of options in midfield of course. We expect Paul Scholes to be playing his last season for United, as we do with Giggs. However, we do not expect this wealth of skill to run off into the sunset and bask in the glory of their yesteryears, no! These midfield legends are going to be with United and train the new breed of players, way after the Ferguson era has come to pass. The likes of Anderson and Cleverley are slowly getting into form, and you are yet to see the best of Kagawa.

Therefore it is noteworthy to mention that United are slowly but carefully building a new team of invincibles. The difference between them and the rest of the bigger clubs in the game is that they are doing it slowly, and for a reasonable price.
