Manchester United avoid hostile Galatasaray fans

Galatasaray fans..not the friendliest

According to Mirror reports, the Manchester United team used a different terminal to escape hostile Galatasaray fans as the team landed in Istanbul today.

United has played in Istanbul twice, in 1993 and 1994.

Their first visit to Turkey was marked by intimidating Galatasaray fans holding up ‘Welcome to Hell’ banners and rancid fans reactions.

It is interesting to note that United have never been able to score here in their two outings, both of which ended in 0-0 draws.

“We came underground,” joked Ferguson.

“We didn’t get the meeting from the fans. In 1993 it was incredible – quite frightening actually.

“But we’ve been here a few times now and are used to the Turkish fanaticism. In that sense it’s not a problem for us.

“We’re in a great position, having already qualified, but we’ll play with some pride and be fair to the other teams in our group.”

Here is a video of the hostile reception United recieved in 1993, their first trip to Istanbul.
