Manchester United have confirmed they have completed a deal in signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old had one year left on his contract with at the Signal Iduna Park and the Bundesliga side were initially reluctant in letting him leave the club in the summer transfer window. However, the German outfit confirmed the bid made by the Red Devils was too hard to turn down and that saw them allow their midfielder move to Old Trafford.
The Armenian international will join the Red Devils on a four-year deal, with an option to further extend it by one more year.
"Manchester United is delighted to announce that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has completed his transfer from Borussia Dortmund. Henrikh joins on a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further year," a statement read on United's official website.
Throughout this summer, Mkhitaryan's agent Mino Raiola publicly confirmed that his client has set his sights on joining Jose Mourinho's side. Despite reportedly being linked to Arsenal, it was the midfielder's decision to join the 20-time English champions in the summer transfer window.
Mkhitaryan admitted that he is proud to join United and has expressed his delight after completing his dream move to Old Trafford.
"I am very proud to join Manchester United, this move is a dream come true for me. I am excited to play for a club with such an illustrious history and hope to be part of it for a long time," the player explained.
"I thank the trust the club and Jose Mourinho have put in me. Finally, I believe playing for such a great club honours my father’s memory, and the inspiration and drive he gave to me when I was young."
Mkhitaryan is the third signing for United in the current transfer window after the Red Devils sealed the deal for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly. The Swedish striker is also represented by Raiola and his another client Paul Pogba is also linked with a return to the Premier League.
The former Chelsea manager has backed the Armenian midfielder to have an immediate impact at United.
"Henrikh is a very talented footballer who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country. He is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal. I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United," the Portuguese boss explained.
"I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League. We are all looking forward to working with him."
