Fulham boss Rene Muelensteen did not stop after having completed the signings of Ryan Tunnicliffe and Larnell Cole from Manchester United but instead went after England U-21 star Jesse Lingard only for a £5 million move to be blocked by United boss David Moyes.
Lingard, who recently returned to Old Trafford after a successful loan spell at Birmingham during which he scored six goals in 13 appearances, was a deadline day target for the Cottagers but Moyes refused to sanction the release of the attacking midfielder.
Birmingham City also wanted to extend Lingard’s stay but the 21-year-old hopes to continue at Old Trafford and go on to become a regular in United’s first team in the future.
Lingard, who is yet to make his senior debut for Manchester United, said: “I just want to hopefully break into the United first team. That’s my main aim.”
