What’s the story?

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made contact with Real Madrid officials over the availability of Alvaro Morata according to reports in Spanish daily Don Balon. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic out with a long-term injury, Manchester United are desperate to sign a superstar striker and Jose Mourinho thinks that the 24-year-old Spaniard would be ideal for the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho wants someone who has experience of playing at the top level and in the Champions League and with Alvaro Morata frustrated at the lack of playing time, the move could come to fruition in the summer transfer window.

Premier League bound?

The 24-year old Madrid-born striker has grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of opportunities and this is not the first time there have been reports of him being linked with a move to the Premier League.

Also, in a recent interview with The Guardian, when Morata was asked about the possibility of joining the Premier League, he said: “If an offer like that comes again and they (Madrid) want to sell, I shouldn’t close doors. I loved Italy but if one day I have to leave, I’m sure it will be to the Premier League.”

The heart of the matter

It promises to be a summer of huge change at Real Madrid with plenty of big names set to enter and exit the revolving doors of Santiago Bernabeu. Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez are the two biggest Real Madrid stars who could be on their way out and plenty of Premier League clubs are interested in signing the talented duo.

Also, with Manchester United’s talisman this season Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured and Rashford still only 19, the signing of Morata will add some much-needed depth and experience especially if United are competing in the Champions League next season.

What’s next?

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho will no doubt have big plans for the summer transfer window, but a lot will depend on whether the Red Devils have Champions League football next season.

Alvaro Morata, on the other hand, has time and again made his frustrations known and a move away from the Bernabeu looks inevitable in the summer transfer window.

Author’s take

Alvaro Morata is one of the most talented strikers in world football at the moment. Still only 24, the Spaniard has his best years ahead of him and Manchester United should definitely do everything in their power to sign the Real Madrid striker.
