What’s the story?
Manchester United have agreed on an astronomical £280,000/week deal for Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann. According to reports in SunSport, the Red Devils are ready to pay Griezmann’s buyout clause of £89 million and the fee combined with wages and bonuses could cost United over £170 million. The Atletico Madrid star has been United’s top target for quite some time now and we might more than likely see this transfer come to fruition in the summer window.
The report also goes on to add that Atletico Madrid are aware of the development and are looking towards Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette as a replacement for the departing French striker.
In case you didn’t know...
Manchester United are desperate to sign a top class centre-forward next season. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future in question after a horrific ligament injury and Marcus Rashford too young to take up the entire striking responsibility on his own, Mourinho has reportedly greenlighted moves for Griezmann and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
With Antoine Griezmann’s release clause set at £89 million, Atletico Madrid will be forced to listen to the offer if the Red Devils do indeed meet it in the summer transfer window.

The heart of the matter
The report believes that now Atletico Madrid are all but knocked out of the Champions League, Griezmann made the decision to move to United in order to further his personal interests. The 26-year-old is at the peak of his career and he will definitely add a new dimension to the Red Devils’ attack if he does indeed end up making the move.
Mourinho is determined to build an era of dominance at Old Trafford and Ed Woodward is more than ready to spend big money on superstar players once again in the transfer market.
What’s next?
Manchester United might have all but secured the deal, but one thing crucial for the Red Devils to sign Griezmann is Champions league football next season. With United struggling in the League, Mourinho has put all his eggs in the Europa League basket and the Premier League giants will be hoping to win the competition and book a ticket to Europe's premier club competition next season.
