Manchester United manager David Moyes has been given a fresh selection headache following the news that defender Jonny Evans will not return to full fitness for a further three weeks, reports the Mirror.
The Northern Ireland international has now missed United’s last three Premier League matches after he picked up a calf injury last month, but was initially believed to be close to a comeback.
However, an aggravation of the issue means that the 25-year-old is likely to be out of action for the remainder of March and will miss crucial fixtures against Liverpool, Olympiakos and Manchester City.
Although defender Phil Jones has returned to training after a hip injury, Moyes’ centre back options are limited at present and Evans would have been useful to call upon for Saturday’s trip to the Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion.
Meanwhile, club captain Nemanja Vidic has confirmed that he will join Internazionale in the summer, while Rio Ferdinand’s form has been below par for some time.
Question marks also remain over Chris Smalling’s long term future at the club and the Red Devils will need make strengthening their back line a priority in the summer if they are to compete for the Premier League title next season.
Jonny Evans has won 73% of his tackles and aerial duels for Manchester United this season.
