Rumour: Manchester United eye Christian Benteke

Manchester United boss David Moyes is all geared up to sign the Belgian striker during the January transfer window reports The Mirror.

The Belgian forward has been a striking sensation in the Premier League and is the top scorer for the year 2013.Old Trafford boss David Moyes watched the 22-year old in action in Belgium’s victory over Scotland on Friday.

Owing to the lack of strength and height upfront, which Moyes seems to have preferred in his Everton stint, United could make a move for powerful centre-forward.

Benteke is on £60,000-a-week at Villa with United having the resources to afford both his transfer fee and his wages.

The Mirror adds that David Moyes had his eyes on Uruguayan hitman Edinson Cavani until it was revealed that the overall deal is too expensive. Robin Van Persie is still the main man but with the Dutchman moving to the wrong side of 30, it’d make sense to have someone younger to take over the reigns.

Benteke would even be eligible for Europe if the Red Devils were to try and make a move for him in January.
