Reports in the Express suggest that Manchester United are trying to sign the Real Madrid star James Rodriguez. Apparently they are already in talks with super-agent Jorge Mendes, who maintains a good relationship with the English club.
The daily also suggests that the Blancos allegedly want £63 million for the Columbian. That makes it a huge amount considering the fact that James has made very few appearances so far this season and his performance has not been anything special. His relationship with Zidane has turned sour, claims some rumours. The Frenchman said earlier that he was not very impressed with James’ attitude and will not mind if the player left Bernabeu.
But, Marca reports that the Frenchman has somewhat changed tone regarding the World Cup wonderkid. “I like what I see of James here,” said Zidane.
James has made 11 La Liga appearances so far this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists in that time. Zidane heaped praises on the youngster and stood by him saying that James is “working really hard and we know just how important a player he is for this team.”
“I’m pleased with what he’s doing. I like what I see of James here. He’s fully focused on what he’s doing and I don’t believe what is being said about him outside of the club. He looks committed and focused on what he does every day,” he added.
Despite all the above comments the Express insists that the player’s agent Jorge Mendes is in talks with various other clubs and the primary among them being Manchester United. The two parties are apparently involved at the moment, trying to materialize the deal by this transfer window.
Manchester United suffered yet another defeat at home at the hands of Southampton. For the second time, United have failed to beat Southampton, losing 1-0 to them on Saturday. They now find themselves in a tougher spot five points away from the Champions League spot with 37 points. Tottenham Hotspur sits above United in the fourth position with 42 points as pressure keeps mounting on Louis Van Gaal with another performance from his team who failed to show either creativity or the intent needed to score goals until a solid header from Charlie Austin in the 87th minute sealed the victory for Southampton.
With a situation like this, it is understood that the Dutch manager is keen to land up the Columbian youngster at Old Trafford.
