Manchester United linked with Axel Witsel

Axel Witsel is a name frequently linked with Manchester United, and this time Portuguese publication Relvaldo are the latest to link the Belgian International with the British club.. Basically, I think all the midfield names linked with United at the moment are backup options for Lucas Moura, who is top priority for United. The Benfica star has also been linked with PSG, and United would want to avoid a bidding war with PSG, one of Europe’s richest clubs.

According to the report, United are ready to meet the buy-out clause in Witsel’s contract, €40million. The player is valued at €20 million according to transfermarkt.co.uk, and United are surprisingly willing to pay double that amount. I think they would do better if they spend that amount of money on Lucas Moura. Axel Witsel is a good player. He would inject the United squad with some much needed creativity, and also height.

The 23-year old Belgian is largely injury and suspension free, and is more or less a player of the Darren Fletcher mould. But he is definitely not 40 million. It’s crazy money for a normal player. That kind of money should be spent on big names, like Lucas Moura, who brings in endless potential and possibilities for United.
