Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has backed former manager Jose Mourinho to succeed at Old Trafford and has said that the Red Devils are fortunate to have the 53-year-old as their manager. It was under Mourinho that English youngster made his Chelsea bow in 2014.
Loftus-Cheek is yet to get regular playing time under new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, however, the 20-year-old is excited to welcome his former manager back to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
"I don’t think it will be weird [facing Mourinho]," Loftus-Cheek told Goal. "But obviously he is a great manager and I think Man United are lucky to have him. So even though he has moved to United, Chelsea fans still love him".
Jose Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea last year after the Portuguese had a dismal run with the Blues. The former Inter Milan coach was then appointed as the Manchester United manager at the end of the 2015-15 season. The appointment of the ‘Special One’ excited the Manchester United fans around the world, however, the Red Devils have an indifferent time this season despite spending about £150 million in the transfer market.
Even though Manchester United have got a slow start to their season, Loftus-Cheek believes that the Red Devils under Mourinho will be challenging for the title. However, the Chelsea starlet doesn't want to make things easy for his former manager when he faces Chelsea on Sunday and has said that the Blues are going to try to defeat Mourinho's team when the time comes.
"We are going to try and beat Man United when the time comes. They have always had a good team, Man United have always been up challenging for the title so they could be, [the team to beat] yes", the highly rated midfielder quipped ahead of Chelsea's clash with Manchester United.
Loftus-Cheek believes that former Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be the main threat to Chelsea on Sunday. The Swedish striker has scored four goals since his arrival at Old Trafford and will be looking to add more to his goalscoring tally.
"Zlatan is a great player, isn't he? He's got goals and flair and everything it is exciting for the Premier League to have him", Loftus-Cheek said about the Manchester United striker.
The Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester United on Sunday will be a very exciting one to watch regardless who the winner is. The Chelsea fans will be looking forward to welcoming their old manager Jose Mourinho back at Stamford Bridge and the Portuguese will also be excited to return to his old home.
