Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offer a £160,000 per week contract to Luke Shaw according to The Metro, in a bid to convince him to make the move to Old Trafford and reject his boyhood heroes, Chelsea.
United are desperate to secure the services of the Southampton left-back this summer despite having tied Patrice Evra down to a new one-year deal and it appears that the England international is keen on leaving St Mary’s stadium.
Jordi Alba has been lined up to move to Man United as an alternative should they fail to coax Shaw and despite Chelsea holding a heavy interest, the Red Devils are lining up a massive wage packet in order to ensure he moves north, despite his childhood allegiances to the Blues.
Chelsea are believed to have re-entered the race for Shaw after Ashley Cole confirmed his exit from the club at the end of his contract, with the absence of Cole and Lampard from Jose Mourinho’s squad leaving him in need of adding homegrown players to his side.
Luis Filipe and Alberto Moreno have both been linked with the Blues and are believed to be preferred options of Mourinho as he is also unwilling to pay a fortune to land a player with 18 months of first team experience.
This has given Manchester United the upper hand and they are willing to break the bank in order to bring him into their squad, having become prepared to do anything to prevent Shaw opting for Chelsea instead.
